Cyclone Fengal killed at least 19 people in India and Sri Lanka and caused flooding in Tamil Nadu state and the Puducherry region after crossing India's southern coast from the Bay of Bengal on Saturday.

The death toll from Cyclone Fengal surged to 20 in Sri Lanka and India on Monday. In Sri Lanka, the storm, which skirted the South Asian island nation on Friday, caused widespread devastation, resulting in 17 casualties due to drowning and landslides, according to the country’s disaster management agency.

At least 12 people, including six children, have drowned in torrential rain in Sri Lanka caused by a slow-moving storm now headed toward India. More than 335,000 people in Sri Lanka have been forced to flee after their homes were flooded in the storm, Colombo's Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said.

Cyclone Fengal, which originated from the Bay of Bengal, made landfall in Tamil Nadu and the Puducherry region, bringing intense rainfall, strong winds, and significant flooding. This marks the latest severe weather event to impact southern India, as authorities continue to prepare for the storm's aftermath.
