Jerrell Thomas is charged with the murder of Oak Park Detective Allan Reddins after a fatal shooting incident.

An Oak Park police officer was fatally shot in the line of duty Friday morning by a suspect leaving a Chase Bank, authorities said.

Det. Allan Reddins, 40, was killed by an armed offender, authorities said. His death marks the first time an officer has died in the line of duty at the Oak Park Police Department since 1938

Authorities allege Jerell Thomas shot Det. Allan Reddins as the detective responded to a call about a person leaving a Chase bank location with a gun.

Jerrell Thomas, 37, of North Lawndale is charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder of a peace officer, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon, according to Oak Park officials.

The Oak Park community is mourning the loss of fallen police detective Allan Reddins, who was shot and killed in the line of duty on Friday.
