The Punjab Kings built a decent squad after the IPL 2025 auction. Having had the biggest purse walking into the two-day mega auction, Punjab were able to fill all the gaps needed including a new captain but the coach Ricky Ponting was on the receiving end of criticism of favouring Australians.

Punjab Kings had only retained two players ahead of the auction and both of them were uncapped. In the run up to the auction, the Punjab franchise also brought in Ricky Ponting as their head coach. In the auction, they have tried to buy some good Indian players alongside trusted overseas names.

Looking at four key players who could play a crucial role in helping Punjab Kings win their first IPL title, including Shreyas Iyer and Yuzvendra Chahal.

Punjab Kings, led by Ricky Ponting, had a successful IPL 2025 super auction, rebuilding their team strategically. They secured Arshdeep Singh using their Right-to-Match card for Rs 18 crore and made Shreyas Iyer their most expensive buy at Rs 26.

Ricky Ponting and PBKS purchased five Australian players, in the guise of Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Josh Inglis, Aaron Hardie and Xavier Bartlett.

Out of ₹120 crore allotted to each franchise, the Punjab-based franchise, co-owned by Bollywood actress Preity Zinta and businessman Ness Wadia, had the highest purse of ₹110.15 crore.
