Tata Group-owned Air India’s CEO Campbell Wilson, while discussing Boeing’s delivery delay issues, said he expected the remaining white-tail aircraft to be delivered in the next six months.

Air India will see most of the air traffic growth coming from domestic and short-haul international operations in 2025 as more narrow-body planes are joining the fleet and legacy wide-body aircraft will be going for retrofit next year,

The airline group currently has a cumulative domestic market share of 29 per cent, which is significantly higher than the market share during its government-ownership days.

Out of the total 50 white tail Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, at least 35 have joined the fleet. These planes are being operated by Air India Express.

Air India now holds a 55% market share on metro routes and 40% on top 120 routes after merging with Vistara. The airline plans to add 100 new planes by 2027 and is undergoing a $400-million retrofit program to upgrade its widebody aircraft interiors,

Post-Air India's merger with Vistara, there were certain concerns about seniority, retirement age and other issues.

In February 2023, the former flag carrier placed orders for 470 planes with both Boeing and Airbus consisting of a mix of narrow and wide-body aircraft.
