Justice Manmohan appointed as Supreme Court judge, enhancing Delhi high court's representation, following President's approval and Supreme Court collegium's recommendation.

On November 28, the Supreme Court Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and comprising Justice BR Gavai, Justice Surya Kant, Justice Hrishikesh Roy and Justice Abhay S Oka, had recommended the elevation of Justice Manmohan.

Justice Manmohan's name was chosen unanimously in the meeting held on November 28 by the Collegium of five senior most judges of the Supreme Court.

The Central government on Tuesday notified the elevation of the former Delhi High Court's Chief Justice Manmohan as a judge of the Supreme Court.

CJ Manmohan, who enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi in 1987, went on to practice at the Supreme Court (SC) as well as the Delhi High Court (HC). He also served as a senior panel advocate of the Union government at the Delhi HC and SC.

Justice Manmohan’s elevation comes at a time when the Supreme Court is operating with two vacancies, and his appointment is expected to enhance the representation of the Delhi HC in the apex court.
