Authorities are growing in confidence that they are starting to gain the upper hand on a huge bushfire that has been threatening a string of coastal communities north of Perth.

The large coastal bushfire has been burning since Monday and authorities are preparing for more ‘very challenging’ conditions.

Residents have been told to evacuate as a fire tears through parts of Wedge Island, Cooljarloo and Dandaragan.

An evacuation warning remains in place as an enormous bushfire bears down on the town of Cervantes on the coast of Western Australia.

An emergency warning is still in place for a blaze threatening the town of Cervantes, 200 kilometres north of Perth, with strong winds and high temperatures expected to test fire crews today.

Hundreds of firefighters are battling a bushfire north of Perth which is threatening multiple communities. The fire is moving in a northerly direction towards the coastal fishing towns of Cervantes, Wedge and Grey.
