Downey Jr. will be making his return to the MCU in the 2026 blockbuster after having first starred in the franchise as Iron Man from the 2008 eponymous flick until ‘Avengers: Endgame’ five years ago. His previous MCU appearances have collectively grossed over $22 billion worldwide.

In a newly released interview when Mackie and Danny Ramirez were in Brazil for the country’s own D23, the new Captain America reacted to fighting Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom once the former Iron Man actor takes up the role. In his words:

Towards the end of the film, the original Captain America Steve Rogers (played by Evans) passed his shield to Sam Wilson or Falcon (played by Mackie). This momentous event made Wilson the successor of Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
