As the dust settles on Maharashtra’s Assembly elections, the suspense thickens around the next Chief Minister. With the BJP’s dominance and ongoing negotiations, will Eknath Shinde reclaim his position or will Devendra Fadnavis take the reins?

The new govt of Maharashtra is yet to be sworn in more than a week after the BJP-led NDA, also known as Mahayuti, clinched a landslide victory in state polls.

Senior BJP leader and former minister Sudhir Mungantiwar on Monday made a big announcement related the formation of Government in Maharashtra. Mungntiwar declared Devendra Fadnavis's name for Chief Minister's post.

Amid continued suspense over who will succeed Eknath Shinde as Chief Minister of Maharashtra, a senior BJP leader on Sunday night said that the name of Devendra Fadnavis has been finalised. The claim was made by a senior party leader while speaking to news agency PTI.

BJP plans to announce Devendra Fadnavis as Maharashtra's new Chief Minister soon. As political negotiations continue, Shinde Sena demands Deputy CM and Home Ministry positions. The final decision rests with Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

Throughout the campaign during this election, his rivals contemptuously referred to Mr. Fadnavis as Annaji Pant, a controversial figure in Maratha history, who is considered a ‘traitor’ by many for conspiring against Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s son Chhatrapati Sambhaji, trying to get him killed.

Amid speculation that his son Shrikant Shinde might get the deputy CM's post and Shiv Sena is keen on the Home portfolio, Eknath Shinde said the Mahayuti allies- BJP, NCP, and Shiv Sena- will decide the government formation through consensus after sitting together.

During his visit to his native village of Dare in Satara district, Shinde further mentioned, according to PTI, that discussions on government formation were ongoing and assured that all decisions would be taken collectively by the three Mahayuti allies — Shiv Sena,

Shinde also said that his government's work in Maharashtra in the last 2.5 years will be written in "golden letters in history"

Maharashtra's caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated the BJP will decide the new CM, with full support from Mahayuti partners. He emphasised consensus among Shiv Sena, BJP, and NCP ahead of the December 5 oath-taking ceremony.
