Indian airlines have been hit by nearly 1,000 bomb hoaxes so far in 2024, with over 600 fake threats made in October alone, according to a government minister.

India's airlines and airports reportedly received nearly 1,000 fake bomb threats as of early November, disrupting flight schedules and wreaking havoc on services.

Every year, the Indian government records the number of hoax bomb threats received by the country’s airlines. And while that figure has ranged from a couple of dozen to over 100 in recent years, 2024 has set a new record by registering 994 threats as of November 13.

According to Minister of State for Civil Aviation Muralidhar Mohol, a total of 1,143 hoax bomb threats were received between August 2022 and 13, 2024.
